Virgin Media might be about to put up the cost of its TV and broadband packages but now it’s launching a service which could help reduce monthly bills.

The new Family Plan has just been unveiled which brings the ability to add a number of mobile phone SIMs onto one bill.

Virgin says customers can add up to five mobile plans onto their account and will be rewarded with a £2 monthly discount for every eligible additional SIM taken after the first – offering a total saving of up to £96 a year.

Along with that saving, there’s also the option to manage data and device usage and stay on top of how much is being spent across the account via the My Virgin Mobile app.

All plans come with unlimited calls and there are all the usual safety options which can block inappropriate content and set time limits for certain apps.

Speaking about the update, Annie Brooks, Executive Director of Virgin Mobile said, “Juggling family life isn’t always easy in today’s digital world and the growing number of devices can make it even more complex.

“Our Family Plan aims to take some of the pressure off parents, making their family’s mobile services simple, affordable and safe.

“Together with our unrivalled ultrafast broadband and fully loaded TV services, our Family Plan gives customers the ultimate line up of fast, flexible and reliable connectivity in home and on the go.”

Although this saving might be popular, Virgin Media is about to raise prices for millions of customers.

The firm revealed back in July that it was hiking costs with users set to be hit by the increase this September and October.

It’s worth noting that not all customers will be hit by the same increase with Virgin saying that the average hike will be around £3.30 per month – although some users could see things increase by as much as £4.50.

Justifying the hike, Virgin said in a statement: “Changing prices is not a decision we take lightly. We invest more than £1billion a year in our network and services to keep giving our customers great value.

“We continue to do more for our customers and lead the way with the fastest broadband speeds – now reaching 500Mbps with gigabit speeds launching soon.

“We are committed to giving our customers an incredible service with unrivalled connectivity, great, high-quality programming and innovative new upgrades – and our customers can expect much more to come.”

If your bill is going up you should have received an email explaining how much more you’ll pay and when the increase is coming into force.
