Sky and Virgin continue the fight to get TV and broadband customers to choose their services.
Whilst Sky still offers some of the best TV on the market and an improved viewing experience via its Sky Q box, Virgin has recently launched its superfast broadband with blistering speeds of over 500Mbps now available.
Along with all the usual channels, both Sky and Virgin offer plenty of on-demand content, including Netflix and YouTube, but one firm is about to add another popular platform which could give it a huge advantage.
Back in April, Virgin announced that it would bring Amazon Prime Video to its V6 customers and that upgrade now seems imminent.
Speaking exclusively to gadget website T3, Virgin Media revealed that more news on the Prime Video update would be coming “very soon”.
“The wait is almost over for Virgin Media customers with the launch of Amazon Prime Video on our V6 box this summer,” the spokesperson told T3.
“Our customers will be able to seamlessly search for and watch thousands of TV shows, movies and Amazon Originals plus live Premier League games being shown in December. Amazon’s Ultra High Definition content will also be available.”
Virgin clearly hasn’t revealed an actual release for this Prime Video news but it seems fans haven’t got too long to wait.
Amazon Prime Video has become hugely popular in recent years with the service offering blockbuster movies and plenty of exclusive content including The Grand Tour.
This upgrade will now mean Virgin Media customers will be able to access these shows without needing a separate streaming device.
Speaking about the upgrade, Lutz Schüler, COO of Virgin Media, said: “This partnership with Amazon reinforces our track record of teaming with the best to give our customers unbeatable content.
“Virgin Media customers will soon be able to seamlessly search for and watch incredible Amazon Prime programming directly from their V6 box in the highest possible quality.
“With thousands of box sets, movies, exclusive and original content, as well as 20 live Premier League games airing later this year, Virgin Media customers will have even more of the TV they love in one place all powered by our ultrafast connectivity.”
